Have you become reliant on using alcohol to relax and unwind in the evening after the festive period? Has it turned from twice a week to four times a week?
The latest government statistics show that drinking at home has reached an all-time high.
Almost one in five women drink an excess amount weekly — and the number drinking more than the recommended number of units has grown by a fifth over the past decade where as mens has stayed the same over the last decade.
It is no wonder with such stressful lives it may seem an easy answer to turn to a little glass of wine in the evening to relax but this small habit can soon get out of control and really start to affect your health.
Here are our top tips to swap out the booze:
1. Swap alcohol for fizzy water Make sure it is chilled and add a slice of lemon or lime for extra flavour you will find this is such a refreshing drink without all the nasties.
2. Tonic water This is a great if you are out with friends and feel pressurized to drink- it looks like you have a Gin and Tonic!
3. Workout more Relieve your stress through working out instead of drinking and you will feel so much better.
4. Is boredom the problem? Try a new hobby or making lists of tasks you need to complete to keep you focused. Writing down healthy goals daily also helps to keep you on track.
5. Clear the cupboards! Clear out those cupboards of any alcohol you have- if it isn’t there you won’t reach for it!
We hope this has helped you today!
